of being japanese
my little boss calls me a japanese.
a few of my friends at work call me "japanese boy"
guess i exhibited too much liking for japan.
so anyway i was reading a few articles on the socioeconomical status of Japan
in an article by ST, it mentioned that in the latest year, only 59% of uni graduates are able to find work upon graduation
the rest are forced to join the workforce as "freeters", which is quite prevalent in japan now. basically its like being a temp staff with job contracts that renews once in a few mths.
not only you get paid lowly, but also do not enjoy staff benefits and welfare, and there really isint any future career prospects.
youths are getting disheartened, because the govt and businesses alike are not putting enough into turning the situation around.
with the aging population and decreasing birth rates, policies are putting more emphasis on
the silverhaired than on newborn children. which doesnt help to improve birth rates
besides, with an old payscheme that favours seniority, sociologists have observed an interesting effect
where youths have given up on society and life. no prospects, no money for getting a home, no money to marry.
quite typically, avoiding dates as they dont think of marriage as possible. the article even states "shunning the crowds of trains" and the public, preferring to walk long distances quietly and enjoy a slow pace of life, being contented with their own world
and, thats where i suddenly realised, i myself, unknowingly, have adopted a stance very similar to the japanese youth.
honestly, and quite truthfully, i think i too, have lost confidence in japan's future.
hmm. so when they start calling me the japanese boy again later tonight as i work.
id think
am i turning into one?
